Glow Run or in My Case – Glow Walk

Glow Run 5k Erie

I’ve participated in a few 5Ks but I have only actually run in one of them. I trained for 3 months on one of those Couch to 5K programs designed to take you from sloth to runner in 8 weeks.  Well it took me 12 weeks and it is still up for debate in my house whether if what I was doing during the race could be considered running. A 70 year old speed walker with a knee brace passed me at mile 2.5.

Shortly after the race, I saw a t-shirt with the slogan, “I run slower than a turtle stampeding through peanut butter, but I run.” I think I need to buy that t-shirt.  In my defense, I hadn’t slept in 3 nights because of children problems and I woke up that morning with a terrible cold. About mile 2.5 I started to get woozie and see stars. That’s when the speed walker passed me.

Despite by lack of running skills I love 5K events. Especially the new ones that try to make it fun like Turkey Trots, Zombie, and Color Runs. That’s why for United Service Corps’ first fundraiser we planned a 5K fun run/walk GLOW RUN.

The Glow Run starts at dusk and we’re going to light the course with neon and black lights and end with a DJ and laser light show.  We partnered with Penn State Behrend’s athletic department to hold the race on their campus and they are putting together a fun course that goes through some dark forested areas, through the heart of campus and finishes on the athletic fields for the after party.

I think it’s going to be so fun for everyone! I’m also secretly happy that since I’ll be busy coordinating the event, that I don’t have to embarrass myself by trying to “run” it. The Glow Run isn’t until next May on Memorial Day Weekend but sign up early because we have to cap it off at 3,000. You can register HERE.

And HERE is a super fun website that sells every kind of glow thing you can think of to get your glow on for the race!
